Anthony Deacon

Dr Anthony Deacon is a dedicated consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist working at Redcliffe Hospital, STARS and the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital. He completed his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in Gastroenterology & Hepatology in 2023, after a fellowship year focused on Intestinal Failure, Home Parenteral Nutrition, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Anthony’s clinical interests include clinical nutrition, liver disease, and autoimmune conditions, especially inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

In addition to his clinical work, Anthony works in medical administration and is a completing a further fellowship through the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators and has completed a number of postgraduate qualification in business, information technology, higher education and healthcare leadership. He is actively involved with clinical governance activities, including the quality and safety of healthcare, and medical workforce management. Prior to working in medicine he worked as a Lecturer in Information Technology at the Queensland University of Technology and is particularly interested in how medical technology and health data can be used to improve patient care and service delivery. He continues to hold an associate appointment as a lecturer at the University of Queensland.

When not at work Anthony enjoys trying to make (native) plants survive in his garden with his partner and very naughty puppy.
